I was going to start Whole30 on August 1st, but then I jumped the gun and bought a bunch of produce, thinking for some reason that the 1st was Wednesday (I blame the coronavirus), so I started today. Now, I’m still legit scared about this, even after planning my whole week of meals (who even am I?), and I think I’m actually more terrified than I was to begin with. Let’s take a look at the rules from the book (Kindle version, Loc 467 – 488), shall we?

  • Do not consume added sugar of any kind, real or artificial.
  • Do not consume alcohol in any form.
  • Do not eat grains.
  • Do not eat legumes.
  • Do not eat dairy.
  • Do not consume carrageenan, MSG, or added sulfites.
  • Do not recreate baked goods, “treats,” or junk foods with approved ingredients.
  • Do not step on the scale or take measurements.

Like … okay. I already don’t weigh myself due to anorexia (I even stand facing away from the scale at doctor offices), so that won’t be a problem, and I don’t drink that often, anyway, so completely eliminating that from my diet is not even an issue. At first, I was all poo-poo to the no dairy, as I haven’t had dairy in years, but then I was curious what carrageenan was because I’d never heard of it. Well, lo and behold, it’s used in a lot of nut milks as a thickener, so out goes my staple nut milk. That got me thinking about removing sugar and grains, and then I nearly had a panic attack.

I’m better now. Mostly.

But you how I’m using this blog as an accountability tracker with my to-do lists every Sunday (which I didn’t do yesterday LOL so I’ll be making one of those today too)? Well, I’m going to do the same with Whole30, with the plan being daily entries. Apparently, on Day 4, I’m supposed to feel somewhat homicidal (according to the book!), so … that day’s post should be interesting. In all seriousness, though, I want to be able to look back and see what progress I make. For all I know, I could be just as physically miserable as I’ve been the last few months, but at least I’ll know that it’s not food-related.

Basically, wish me luck. Or send happy thoughts/prayers/whatever. Or both. I don’t care, but I can use all the help I can get.
