xena: warrior princess

If there is any show featuring so many powerful, multifaceted female characters that has inspired me the most, it is Xena: Warrior Princess. Yes, even more than Buffy the Vampire Slayer. From the titular character to her sidekick girlfriend to villains to any number of one-off characters, you have your pick of resourceful and intelligent women to praise. It is so damn refreshing, even all these years later, to see a show champion women unabashedly, where they are just as strong, and just as vicious, as the men who inhabit that world.

Now, the quality may not be the absolute best, and realism wasn’t even a thing the writers worried about, which I … kind of love it more because of that? But regardless of your opinion on Xena, it was a show that made an impression, enough so that it is still referenced today. It’s sure as hell more relevant than Kevin Sorbo and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, but that’s a whole other conversation that I don’t really want to waste my breath on. Instead, enjoy, my loves, the wonder that is Xena: Warrior Princess.
