The word PARADISO written across an art deco background with stars behind it

Paradiso Challenge, Day 4

Free Friday or post some good fortune

Well, I have no idea what to do with this one? Part of it is that I worked the last four days in a row (I work 12-hour night shifts as a nurse in the ICU), so my brain is not firing on all cylinders. I know what Free Friday means – I can do what I want – but what the hell does good fortune mean? Like a pithy fortune cookie saying? Or maybe it’s a good thing that’s happened to me lately?

That’s the way I’m taking this one, but I guess I should make it Paradiso-themed since, well … that’s the challenge I’m doing, so it only makes sense.

I may have already mentioned this, but I’ve been struggling with this story since 2016. Granted, I’ve also been working on my other perpetual WIP (The Legion) since I was 15 or 16 years old, so I’ve got a pattern here. But anyway, the sheer amount of creativity that has been raging through my veins over the past several months is both invigorating and frightening, and it all started with a little breakthrough: that I should look to movies and series of my childhood to get inspiration on how to weave the story together. So I went back through a lot of shows and films that inspired me and realized that I was trying too hard to be linear, and I ultimately decided that Paradiso was going to be a collection of different novellas. That gave me a bit more freedom to play with reveals without getting too bogged down with chapter flow.

So that was my good fortune! And it’s really helped me to write the story that I want to write and hopefully get published.

Fingers crossed! And now I’m gonna go get some sleep.
