Buffy the Vampire Slayer never really ended: it continued, at least until September of this year, in comic form, and there’s apparently a reboot/reimagining/continuation/whatever in the works, about which I have many, conflicting feelings. I was actually surprised at the number of BTVS novels that exist, and my to-read pile just got that much larger, even if I’m positive that they will probably be terrible.

To speak a bit more on the possibility of a reboot, I’m not a fan of remakes in general. Apparently, Hollywood can’t come up with an original idea to save their fucking lives; either they don’t want to take a chance on something that doesn’t already have a huge established base, or they can’t figure out how to use the source material in a way that pleases fans and attracts new ones. While I’m not opposed to a sequel of sorts to the Slayer saga – especially since this new series has a woman of color as the head writer and features a non-white lead character – I would much rather see an original show with a similar spirit and focus. Keep the inspiration and the core message of Buffy, but go bigger, harder, rawer.

Basically, I can’t really say that I want to see anything else from Buffy. The show went on for far too long and should have ended at Season Five, even if that would have robbed us of “Once More with Feeling” and “Lies My Parents Told Me,” and the comic continuations were generally underwhelming. Even the last “season” of the comics was only four issues long, so Buffy‘s story has come to an end. Let’s give someone else the chance to tell theirs.
