Okay, so this year’s Horrorpalooza was amazing. I had a lot of great recommendations from IRL friends and internet pals, and the likelihood that I watch more Mario Bava films on the regular is pretty high (thanks, Liz, for the rec!). Not all were winners – I legit hate Scream and had to stop watching Troma’s Toxic Avenger shortly after it started – but I had fun regardless and found a few new favorite movies.
- A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night (2014)
- The Uninvited (1943)
- The Raven (1963)
- Evil Dead Burn (2026)
- They Will Kill You (2026)
- Kill, Baby … Kill! (1966)
- Black Sunday (1960)
- Baron Blood (1972)
- Candyman (1992)
- Candyman (2021)
- Scream (1996)
- The Fog (1980)
- Suspiria (1977)
- Resident Evil (2002)
- Toxic Avenger (1984)
- Vengeance of the Dead (2001) – Rifftrax version
And then the books! I didn’t read as much as I had planned – depression is a bitch – but the ones I did pick up were incredible:
- The Reformatory by Tananarive Due
- You Should Have Been Nicer to My Mom by Vincent Tirado
- Graveyard Shift by M.L. Rio
- The Uninvited by Dorothy Macardle
Seeing as I missed last year’s Horrorpalooza, I think I made up for it pretty well this year. I can only imagine what incredible films and novels I’m going to experience next year, but I’m hoping to explore more lesser known horror before it comes around.
