The word PARADISO written across an art deco background with stars behind it

Paradiso Challenge, Day 25

Free Friday or share your hobbies

Other than writing? Hm. Well, I like to go to the gym (lifting weights and training for a 5K), to hike, to watch movies/TV, to read, to paint … pretty much standard hobbies. They (plus my ridiculous animals) keep me busy outside of work, so I don’t tend to look for more things to do.

But I also collect handbags, which is more of a sickness than it is a hobby; recently the vintage bug hit me, and I’ve been perusing sites that have purses from the 1990s and earlier (I still refuse to believe Y2K is vintage now) and have come across some really quality pieces, my favorites being the most simple black Coach bag from the early 80s or an early-2000s Kate Spade tote in green. At some point, I’ll reach what this particular hobby calls “purse peace,” but until then, I’m going to continue looking online and in thrift stores and estate sales for random bags to put my shit in during the day. Because I use my bags instead of putting them on display in acrylic cases.

Granted, I’m not one of those luxury purse gals. Spending over $2K for a bag is just ridiculous to me (I would not, however, refuse a gift, so long as it wasn’t like a Louis Vuitton or Chanel [I really dislike those bags from a design standpoint]), and the quality too often doesn’t match the asking price, anyway. You’re paying for the label, which is pretty true of most fashion items in the first place, and if that is what you want, you do you, my friend.

Oh! And I’m also an amateur astronomer. I’ve got a decent telescope that I play with on a regular basis, and I try to stay up to date on all space news, especially the really scary stuff like the random black holes we find or the asteroids that may or may not be coming into contact with Earth. One of my life goals is to go to a major observatory (don’t really care which one) and get a better view of Jupiter, which is my favorite planet in our solar system.

Damn, I gotta be careful to keep this in the hobby category instead of just randomly spouting my interests because this could turn into a very long post.
