What plans does your character have?
See, all of my characters have plans, so like … picking one of them was difficult to do, so I went with Dr. Miles Javish, one of the most complicated characters I have ever created, I think. He’s not evil but he’s also definitely not good, but he’s just so much fun to write.
I can’t go into too much detail about what his current plans are without giving a ton away, but I can say this: Miles went to prison for a reason, and the fact that Albertus Industries, a megacorporation with questionable motives, was involved in his incarceration should say something. Also, so much of what happens in the book can be directly attributed to him, even if it isn’t revealed initially, and the sheer number of people affected by what his ethically ambiguous desires dictate is astounding. There are even main characters that are negatively impacted by his actions, with at least one of them promising to kill him personally.
To put it plainly: Javish’s plans are focused solely upon the development of his own knowledge. He doesn’t particularly care about money or fame; he just wants to know something is or isn’t possible, and if that means people are harmed in the process? So fucking be it.
His words.
