Paradiso Challenge, Day 9

Humor in Paradiso

As much as I’d like to channel Terry Pratchett into Paradiso, I have a feeling that it would just come across as forced. I’m not clever enough to be a satire writer, no matter how much I’d love to, so I’m leaning into my strengths. Plus, this story isn’t really a light Marvel-style romp with Tony Stark quipping with each breath.

This isn’t to say that there is a scarcity of humor in Paradiso. I just finished writing a fun scene between Callie and Fan that is just dripping in sarcasm, and I love the witty, playful rapport between Bucky and Ash while they investigate the central mystery. But for the most part, humor is more of an accent than it is a feature.
