Do your characters believe in luck or fate?
Okay, so the cast of characters that I am working with is pretty extensive, so I think that what I’m going to do is focus on a single character for each question that resembles this one. That way, it won’t get too repetitive and you’ll kind of get a good idea of the type of people you’ll be reading about when Paradiso gets published.
That being said, I know exactly who to write about for this entry.
Catherine Nzingha is definitely one to believe in fate. She was fated to have the father she did, to be born in this particular time, to marry her husband, etc. All of this is because she knows she has been given the emotional and mental fortitude to handle it. Now that she’s where she universe wants her, it’s up to her to make things happen.
Naturally, she can definitely feel the pressure weighing on her. As the Martian diplomat leading new talks of her planet’s independence from Earth, she cannot afford to make any mistakes. But she is a highly skilled negotiator and communicator, adapting deftly and almost inconspicuously; many times, the people she’s talking to do not realize that she’s making their decision for them while allowing them to feel that they are the ones doing it.
Catherine understands the great responsibility that is at her feet. She cannot steer the galaxy into another war, but she also must avoid appearing spineless and overly accommodating. It’s also very clear to her that she might not reap the benefits of her current actions but trusts that what she puts into motion will be for the best of Mars … and hopefully, the galaxy, as well. There’s a bigger picture that she’s a part of, and she has to play it well. Why else would she have been willed into existence?
