Paradiso Challenge, Day 1

Introduce yourself & your WIP

Although I’ve alluded to this story for several years, I do not think I’ve ever really introduced it in any proper way, so I guess now is the best time to do it! Paradiso is if Outer Worlds/Fallout, Battlestar Galactica, Bubblegum Crisis, Akira, Mass Effect, and Game of Thrones got together to have a baby (there are several other major influences, but these are the mains). It takes place mostly on a massive space station, the titular Paradiso, that was once the neutral zone in a war between Mars and Earth and now serves as a major commercial and cultural center for both planets.

Nearly two hundred years before, a major war erupted between Earth and Mars over Mars’ inhabitants desire to exist as its own entity separate from that of Earth, and although the Earth did ultimately triumph, leaving Mars in a crippled state for decades, a new rumbling of a second revolution has begun … and both are denying it.

This may be the backdrop for the story of Paradiso and one of the major storylines – a diplomat who is arguing for Martian independence is one of the viewpoint characters, as is a guerrilla terrorist who sees no other option – but it isn’t the entire focus. There’s also a murder mystery, family drama, romance, and so much more that I can’t just give away because why then would you read it.

Now, this is also the first of a planned trilogy, and I’m trying to decide if I want to write this as a full novel or multiple novellas as part of a collection. It will probably end up as the former with some additional novellas published separately, but I’m getting ahead of myself here. I have to get this book out first, right?
