There’s no reason to hide her behind any kind of break: Lucille Bluth is by far my favorite character in Arrested Development, and honestly, the biggest reason is Jessica Walters (may her memory be a blessing). She played this role with such incredible comedic timing and unexpected depth that you instantly hated and loved Lucille Bluth simultaneously. She is, without a doubt, the most quotable character on the show, and her cunning, master-manipulator persona was one of my favorite reveals at the end of the original run.
I think one of the other reasons that I love Lucille as much as I do is because she is utterly unapologetic in her actions and motives … a pure heart, if you will. She’s fully aware of who she is and what she wants and, unlike us saps, doesn’t really care who gets caught in the crosshairs, even if it’s her family members. George Sr. may be a treasonous bastard, but he seems to have more scruples than Lucille does.
Now the question is would I like Lucille in real life? I mean, that’s a tough question because there’s no way in hell she would ever have anything to do with me, but! if I did show up on her radar and she invited me to some of her parties? Sure, I’d go. It’d be entertaining at least, just so long as it wasn’t one of the parties where the (not hot) cops showed up.
