28 day bubblegum crisis challenge, day 12: in which I have a least favorite secondary/one-shot character …

You know how I kinda shit on “Blow Up” because it was basically a more boring “Born to Kill?” I don’t think I used those exact words, but I kind of wish I had. Oh, well. What’s done is done. Regardless, my least favorite secondary character is very similar, in that they wanted to recreate the feel of an already-existing character but give her … more edge? More bloodthirstiness? A stronger mech suit? I dunno. It didn’t succeed, though.

I give you Reika Chang. AKA Vision, from “Double Vision.” Or as I like to call her, Priss Lite.

I’m preeeeetty sure that she was supposed to replace Priss after the latter died in a previous episode, but for whatever reason (I think there were contractual disputes?), Priss stayed, but Reika was already a part of “Double Vision.” Ugh, whatever. I would have hated the rest of the episodes without Priss, honestly.

Moving on, first off, you expect me to think that all you have to do is take out the green stripe in your hair and people won’t recognize you? Clark Kent at least has glasses, and Priss has a pretty kickass wig and a lot of makeup, and Leon still figures out who she is. LEON DOES. (Sorry, I adore Leon, but he’s pretty thick-headed.) I just have a hard time believing that everybody just turns stupid.

Anyway, she’s also a singer like Priss, except her music is just bland pop. Sorry to everyone who likes “Say Yes,” but I absolutely hate it:

Third, she also has this connection to Irene which is … fine, whatever, but she’s also the heir to a criminal underground? And if she kills Quincy, she’ll have earned the right to lead it? I just don’t even know because I don’t even care.

I feel bad getting this worked up about a fictional and animated character, but I’m running low on sleep and figure the animosity is coming from that. Either that, or I do really hate Reika that much.

Ugh, gotta go to clinical now. Luckily, I’ll be around newborn babies, so maybe that will take off the edge.
