One of the things that bothers me in television is when writers basically run out of ideas and start rehashing a whole mess of storylines. For example, Buffy wanting to be a normal girl throughout the first two seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer got a little tiring after a while, and Gabrielle staying “pure” in Xena: Warrior Princess was thankfully dropped in Season Three. But here’s the deal with these: they had multiple seasons, and Bubblegum Crisis only had a total of eight episodes. Somehow, they managed to lose their notes on “Born to Kill” and just reused its plot in “Blow Up.”
It’s not totally cribbing off of it; the woman and kid that Priss knows aren’t trying to avenge a dead family member or anything, but the episode has Priss attacking another Genom employee that happens to be a Boomer and ends in the woman’s death … so basically, “Born to Kill” but more boring.
That’s all I really have to say about the episode, which only partially has to do with how dull I find it. The other part is because I have three papers due this week, none of which I’m thrilled about. So … wish me luck on those bad boys.
