31 Day Challenge: Battlestar Galactica, Day 15: Favorite Season Three Episode

I’m just going to get this out of the way: Season Three is a depressing season. I can’t expect television shows to constantly deliver me happy feelings (well, unless it’s Parks and Recreation), but damn, this season is rough. From the Death Squad in “Collaborators” to Starbuck’s apparent death in “Maelstrom,” I had a hard time pressing through to the finale. God, it’s just fucking brutal.

But I’m glad I did soldier on, because then we got “Crossroads.” Sure, it’s a two-parter, but I’m meshing it together for basically a feature-length episode with a really long intermission.

We’d been teased with the identities of the Final Five early on in the season, and I’ll admit I was incredibly eager to find out who they were. When Tigh, Anders, Tory (ugh), and Tyrol started hearing “All Along the Watchtower,” I got this little tickle in my stomach as the episode went on. I mean, it wasn’t subtle, so it wasn’t really that much a surprise when they all finally realized together that they were Cylons, but as the music swelled and the four were just following the music only they heard, I felt my heart swell a bit, knowing they would have exceptionally emotional responses once it hit them. Tigh’s was my favorite – “Whooooa.” – but everyone else’s was pretty realistic, considering the characters. Such a good scene, especially when they all return to their posts, trying to pretend that everything is at the status quo.

Ugh, I have to go do something that keeps me moving now, or else I wont’ be able to stay up much longer. I’m going to be so thankful when my three month stretch of working the midnight shift for three weekends in a row is done. Off to the gym, methinks!
