This month continues to be intense, which I’m all for because it means that it passes by quickly, so I haven’t been curating my playlists as much as I normally do. However, Spotify has been knocking it out of the park when coming up with songs that I have actually added to my library or reminding me of songs that I love but have somehow forgotten. I still feel like their algorithm isn’t as good as Pandora’s used to be, but it’s getting better. Or maybe I’m just using Spotify more?

Who knows (probably a programmer honestly)??

So last week’s “on rotation…” inspired me to listen to nothing but Cibo Matto for the last seven days, and I regret nothing. Not only did get transported back to high school, but I also found out that they released an album all the way back in 2014 that I didn’t even know they’d done and was aghast at myself for being so ignorant. After about six days, though, I wanted to find other bands that have that eclectic weirdness that is CM, and I was not disappointed.

Naturally, Bjork showed up (also the video was made back in the mid- to late-90s, which means Bjork is wearing bantu knots and maybe a bindi, Gwen Stefani-style, so be prepared for the lazy racism), and Miho Hatori’s (one of the two women making up Cibo Matto) solo stuff graced my ears, as well. I think my favorite one that I discovered was Satanicpornocultshop just because the name is delightful.

But anyway, here are the results of my experiment:

28 day challenge

Alrighty, it’s that time of the year again! In just a few short weeks, it’s going to be February, the shortest month of the year and the month in which I do a challenge on something that is a bit more short-form. I’ve done TV shows (Friends) and podcasts (The Adventure Zone), and, in the future, will be focusing more on movie trilogies (I’m looking at you, Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings). But this year? I’m going a bit more old school.

School is 100% back in swing, and y’all. Each semester, I’ve been surprised at how much I have to do, and this one is no different. I’ve got three papers due this week (for Christianity 102, which … that’s a whole other ranty post that will come soon), as well as about 30 hours of lectures I need to listen to, if not more, so I’ve been so haphazard about what music I’ve played that I kind of want this post to reflect that as best as it can.

Enjoy? I guess?

Officially? I have an unspecified mood disorder, but according to my psych NP, I have all of the hallmark signs of bipolar type 2. Before that is set in stone – as much as any mental disorder can be, I suppose – she just wants to be 100% sure, but it’s both relieving and upsetting to finally be diagnosed with the thing that explains the difficulties I have simply living a functional life. With therapy and medications, I can actually start to improve, which is absolutely thrilling: that light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel feeling. But another part of me is terrified of the stigma surrounding bipolar disorder, in general, and this overwhelming anxiety just washes out any happy feelings I may have.

The soundtrack to my newest writing project keeps getting larger and more diverse in terms of genre, and I don’t foresee it stop growing anytime soon. I’m going to be posting more about my upcoming project when it gets more … form? I am writing the story, but I’m not sure what media I want it in (graphic novel, comic book, novel, podcast, TV pilot, movie script??). It’s certainly a work in progress, but one of the best parts is coming up with the music that inspires me.

So … here it is!

(And yes, I do have two songs from the original version of Pure Moods. I regret nothing.)
